Care of Your Contact Lenses
Contact lens wearers are more likely to get eye infections than people whom do not wear contact lenses. Despite this, infections are still rare, and most contact lens wearers will never have one.
Allergic Reactions: ssome contact lens wearers develop allergic reaction to the solutions used to care for contact lenses, these reactions usually develop slowly and cause discomfort. A change of solution is usually necessary that does not contain preservatives.
Reducing the Risks
You must not wear your lenses too long, only wear as advised by your Optometrist.
Sleeping in lenses NOT designed to sleep in, will result in corneal complications and infection.
Lens Cleaning: Contact lenses become dirty as they are used- becoming coated in protein & mucous from the tears. Your lenses need to be cleaned and rinsed with your contact lens care solution ( never use Saline) after soaking in your contact lens solution over night.
You should NEVER change your contact lens solution without checking with the Optometrist, as not all solutions are the same!.
You should clean your lenses every day ( except if you wear Daily lenses).
Self Checking : You should get into the habit of checking your eyes daily- look for reddness, as tis is a sign of early infection, lens irritation etc.
If you experience any problem, or notice any changes to the appearance of your eyes- contact the Optometrist immediately.
